Perfect binding is one of the most widely used binding methods for books and brochures. It combines a high-quality appearance with cost-efficient production and is particularly well suited for medium to high page counts.
The folded printed sheets or signatures are gathered into a book block. The spine is then milled to allow the adhesive to penetrate optimally, before being permanently bonded to the cover. Different adhesives are used depending on requirements. PUR perfect binding has proven especially effective, offering excellent stability and durability.
Since the book block is fully glued, a perfect bound publication cannot be opened completely flat. The layout should therefore allow sufficient margin towards the spine.

Thread sewing is considered one of the highest-quality and most durable binding methods in book printing. The folded printed sheets are sewn into individual signatures, which are then joined together to form a sturdy book block. This construction results in an exceptionally resilient binding and an almost completely flat opening – even in books with a high page count.
Thread sewing is particularly valued for its durability and reading comfort. It is ideally suited for publications that are used frequently and are meant to retain their quality for many years.
Design options
The thread is visible at the centre of each printed sheet and can be used deliberately as a design element. A white thread is used as standard, but various yarn colours are available on request.
Thread sewing combines the highest quality with excellent reading comfort and is an outstanding choice for premium books designed to last.
Hardcover, also known as case bound, is one of the most premium binding types in book printing. The sturdy cover reliably protects the content and gives every publication an exceptionally refined look and feel. Depending on the project, the book block is either thread sewn or perfect bound before being attached to a rigid case.
The cover consists of solid greyboard and can be wrapped in paper, linen, leather or other high-quality covering materials. The result is books that are not only read, but also treasured and proudly displayed. A wide range of finishing options is available in addition.
The hardcover with a straight spine is the classic form of the rigid book cover. It impresses with clean lines, high stability and a timeless appearance.
The hardcover with a rounded spine is a traditional form for extensive and high-quality publications. The rounded spine improves the stability of the book block and gives the book a particularly elegant, classic appearance.
Features
The hardcover with flush trim is defined by a clean, pared-back aesthetic. Unlike the classic hardcover, the book block and cover are perfectly aligned with no overhang. This makes the board edge of the cover visible, turning it into a deliberate design element.
This format is particularly well suited for publications where materiality and refined craftsmanship take centre stage.
Flexibound combines the premium look of a hardcover with the flexibility and lightness of a softcover. The flexible cover provides a pleasant feel, while the product remains sturdy and durable at the same time.

Swiss brochure binding is one of the most elegant and distinctive binding types in high-quality book printing. Its defining feature is the exposed spine: the book block is attached to the cover with a narrow strip of adhesive rather than being fully glued along the spine. This creates a striking aesthetic and an exceptionally pleasant opening experience.
Depending on the specification, the book block can be perfect bound, thread sewn or made with a strip hinge. Covers with flaps or special spine treatments are also available as optional extras.
Swiss brochure binding combines exceptional design with high functionality, deliberately making the construction of the printed product a visual highlight in its own right.
180° binding allows a book to open completely flat, offering an exceptionally comfortable reading and viewing experience. Thanks to its special construction, double-page spreads remain fully visible with virtually no gutter loss – ideal for publications where design and visual impact take centre stage.
The book block is processed in such a way that pages can open without any tension at the spine. At the same time, endpapers and a reinforcing spine gauze ensure a sturdy and long-lasting construction.
Not every paper is equally suited to this binding type. Which materials make sense for a given project should therefore always be assessed on an individual basis.
OTA binding, also known as lay-flat binding, allows a book to open almost completely flat. This keeps content clearly visible at all times and the open book stays securely on the work surface – ideal for applications where both hands need to remain free.
Unlike conventional perfect binding, the special construction provides an exceptionally comfortable opening experience and makes it easier to read, write or work with the book.
Saddle stitching, also known as staple binding or wire stitching, is one of the most popular and cost-efficient binding methods for brochures, magazines and booklets. Folded printed sheets are nested inside one another and securely joined along the spine with two or more wire staples.
Thanks to its excellent opening behaviour, the brochure can be opened almost completely flat, keeping content visible well into the gutter. Saddle stitching is particularly well suited for publications with a low page count and is generally possible from 8 pages onwards. For a clean construction, the page count should be divisible by four.
Depending on paper weight and format, the page count is limited. With heavier paper, a lower page count is usually advisable. In many cases, up to approximately 48 pages is considered a practical guideline.
Wire-O binding joins a loose collection of pages with a double-loop wire and combines functionality with a high-quality appearance. Unlike conventional spiral binding, it consists of individual wire loops that create a particularly precise and elegant look. Pages can be turned through a full 360° and lie completely flat when open – ideal for printed products that are used frequently.
Depending on the design, the Wire-O binding can be left visible or concealed beneath a cover. The wire is also available in a range of colours, making it easy to coordinate with the overall design of the printed product.
Wire-O binding is the ideal choice for premium printed products where comfort, functionality and a professional appearance are the top priorities.
With spiral binding, a loose collection of pages is joined by a continuous plastic or metal spiral. Unlike Wire-O binding, which consists of individual wire loops, a continuous coil is threaded through the punched holes here. This gives the binding a particularly functional and robust character, making it ideal for printed products used on a daily basis.
Spiral binding also allows pages to be turned through a full 360° and opens completely flat. The continuous spiral coil keeps pages securely in place and makes this binding type especially well suited for everyday use.

Index punching allows printed products to be clearly structured through tabs punched into the side of the pages. Individual sections can be located quickly and opened directly. Especially for documents with a large amount of content, this finishing technique improves navigation and makes everyday use easier.
The number, position and labelling of the index tabs can be individually adapted to suit each product. The result is a functional yet high-quality solution for printed materials that should be clearly structured and user-friendly.

Singer stitch binding is a binding method for brochures with a low page count. Instead of wire staples, the folded printed sheets are sewn together with a continuous thread. The visible seam is deliberately used as a design element, giving every publication a modern, artisanal character.
The binding can be executed as a saddle stitch along the fold or as a flat stitch beside the spine. The thread colour is freely selectable and can either be subtly matched to the cover or used as a deliberate design accent.

Due to the rigid screw fastening, the opening behaviour is more limited than with other binding types. For publications that need to be opened fully on a regular basis, an alternative binding is often the better choice.

Unlike conventional thread sewing, individual sheets rather than folded printed signatures are used. Since the sheets are fully sewn along the spine, the book cannot be opened flat. This binding type is therefore chosen primarily for its distinctive aesthetic rather than its opening behaviour.
